Night Cat Cot Tent: Best Motorcycle Tent for Camping
Camping on two wheels has unique challenges, especially when packing practical gear to be comfortable. After trying various shelter options over the years, I’ve found a tent setup that checks all the boxes for my overnight motorcycle camping adventures: the Night Cat Camping Cot Tent.
This setup stands out, and it’s transformed how I go weekend camping on my Harley-Davidsons.
First Impressions: Compact and Convenient
The Night Cat Camping Cot Tent arrives neatly packed in two zippered nylon bags. While they’re too large to fit inside my GIVI Trekker Outback Top Case, I’ve found a great workaround: strapping one bag to each side of the GIVI case. This keeps the weight balanced, and since the bags aren’t too heavy, they’re easy to manage.
On the road, I appreciate how securely they ride. No rattling or shifting—just a snug fit and peace of mind as I cruise down the highway.
Setting Up the Night Cat Camping Cot Tent
One of the most significant selling points of the Night Cat Camping Cot Tent is how easy it is to set up. After a long day of riding, the last thing I want is to wrestle with poles, stakes, and complicated instructions. Thankfully, this tent takes the guesswork out of the equation:
- Quick Assembly: Both the cot and tent are easy to assemble without complicated instructions. After a few uses, I can quickly assemble the cot and the tent in less than 10 minutes. The manufacturer claims a 5-minute setup, but that’s pushing it.
- Integrated Cot and Tent: The cot and tent are not combined; they can be used separately. However, the tent corners are designed to connect to the corners of the cot, giving the tent a secure platform.
- Lightweight Design: Despite its sturdy construction, it’s light enough to carry and strap onto the bike.
Comfort and Functionality
At 65 years old, sleeping on the ground is no longer my idea of fun. The Night Cat Camping Cot Tent solves this problem beautifully:
- Off-the-Ground Comfort: The built-in cot keeps me elevated, protecting me from uneven or damp ground. This feature alone is worth its weight in gold.
- Spacious Interior: The tent provides enough room for me and my trusty sidekick, Peanut (my 15-pound Chihuahua). However, there isn’t enough space for my gear. I pack items I don’t want to get wet in my Sea to Summit dry bag.
- Ventilation: Thoughtful mesh panels and zippers provide excellent airflow, keeping the interior cool and comfortable.
I love that I can unzip the door, sit, pull my legs in, and lie down. It’s super easy to get in and out of this tent.
Good Value for Your Money
When considering motorcycle camping gear, value is always a key factor. The Night Cat Camping Cot Tent combines two essential items—a cot and tent—into one streamlined package. Here’s why that matters:
- Cost of Separate Gear:
- A quality camping cot alone can cost between $60 and $150, depending on the brand and features.
- A durable, waterproof one-person tent often ranges from $100 to $250.
- Combined, you’re looking at $160 to $400 for separate pieces of gear.
- Night Cat’s Price Point:
The Night Cat Camping Cot Tent is competitively priced at around $200. It offers a tent and cot in one unit, designed to work together. - Durability and Longevity:
Unlike some budget options, the Night Cat Camping Cot Tent is built to last. Its sturdy materials and weather-resistant design ensure you won’t have to replace it after just a few trips. - Space-Saving Design:
For motorcycle camping, space is a premium. A combined tent and cot in a single package saves you money and simplifies your packing, making it easier to strap onto your bike and hit the road.
Why It’s Worth the Investment
The Night Cat Camping Cot Tent delivers excellent value for motorcycle campers when considering the quality, convenience, and price. By purchasing this all-in-one solution, you get a reliable setup at a fraction of the cost and hassle of buying separate gear.
Durability for the Long Haul
Motorcycle camping gear takes a beating, so I need products that can handle the wear and tear of the road. The Night Cat Camping Cot Tent has proven its durability:
- Weather Resistance: The tent is waterproof, keeping Peanut and me dry during unexpected rain showers.
- Sturdy Frame: The cot supports my weight comfortably without sagging or creaking.
- Quality Materials: The nylon fabric resists punctures and tears, even after frequent use.
The Night Cat Camping Cot Tent on the Road
Here’s how this tent fits into my motorcycle camping setup:
- Packing Strategy: As mentioned, the two zippered bags ride on either side of my GIVI top case. This keeps my tent accessible and leaves room in the case for other essentials like cooking gear and food.
- Ease of Use: The quick setup and teardown save valuable time, letting me focus on the adventure rather than the logistics.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Easy to set up and take down.
- Comfortable off-ground sleeping.
- Spacious enough for me and my dog.
- Durable and weather-resistant.
Cons:
- The cot is not as convenient as a cot with folding legs, but those cots won’t fit on a bike.
- I want more headroom in a tent than the Night Cat offers, but it’s not bad for an overnight camping trip.
- There’s room inside the tent for your gear, so bring a dry bag.
- The original tent arrived with a defect.
As mentioned in the cons list, my original tent was delivered with a defect. The tent uses high-quality aluminum poles that attach to the corners and top of the tent using eyelets in canvas strapping that are sewn to the tent’s Polyester Taffeta fabric. As seen in the image below, one of my original tent’s top eyelets was missing. I made do by cutting a hole in the strapping.
Amazon replaced the tent without delay.
Final Thoughts: Is the Night Cat Camping Cot Tent Worth It?
Absolutely. The Night Cat Camping Cot Tent has become essential to my motorcycle camping kit. It’s easy to set up, keeps me comfortable, and provides enough room for me and Peanut to sleep soundly.
While the storage bags might not fit inside your luggage, they strap securely to the bike, making this a non-issue for me. The comfort and convenience far outweigh any minor inconveniences.
If you’re looking for a reliable, compact, and comfortable tent for your next motorcycle camping adventure, the Night Cat Camping Cot Tent is a fantastic choice.
